Case Presentation 1: Inlay Restoration
A 34 year old female presented with an extensive composite restoration on tooth #2 with poor margins and interproximal decay. After removing the restoration and decay, it was determined that there was enough tooth structure present to do an indirect ceramic inlay. The tooth preparation was completed (Figure 1) and the upper arch, lower arch, and buccal bite was scanned with the CEREC Primescan by Dentsply Sirona.
Once the models were processed, the very first thing seen is a fully marginated, extremely crisp preparation on tooth #2 (Figure 2). The CEREC 5 software automatically sets the Model Axis and draws the margin for you. The next step is to get the initial proposal (Figure 3). There were no adjustments necessary for contour, contacts, or occlusion and the restoration was then milled with IPS e.max CAD.
The inlay restoration was tried in after removing the sprue (Figure 4) and no adjustments were needed. After crystallization and glazing, the final restoration was then bonded in (Figure 5) and final radiograph was taken to make sure no interproximal resin was still present (Figure 6).
The CEREC Primescan and CEREC 5 software made this case simple, efficient, and accurate. The clarity of the models and automation of the CEREC 5 software required nothing more than hitting the forward button and milling…5-clicks to completion.
